Mike is a 2006 graduate of the band instrument repair program at Minnesota State College, Red Wing, MN.  Mike specializes in brass and woodwind repairs, and has worked at Voigt Music Center since 2013, and is our Service Manager.  His primary instrument is saxophone, and his main interest is in vintage saxophones from the 1920's through the 1950's.  Mike has worked at an overhaul shop, as well as another major music retailer from the Milwaukee market, where he was known as "Mr. Saxophone".  Mike was a member of the jazz/rock combo Good Question, and a former power lifter.  In his free time, Mike is an Elite-Level, nationally recognized, championship archer, and enjoys hunting with his chocolate labs, Penny and Cooper.

Avery graduated from Renton Technical College with an Associate's Degree in Band Instrument Repair Technology.  Avery worked under the direction of master technician Fred Melk in Milwaukee, where he honed his skills and eventually became the saxophone and low reeds specialist at Melk Music.  Avery eventually started teaching band instrument repairs at a nationally recognized school, until joining the Voigt Music team in 2018.  Although his primary instrument is saxophone, his favorite instruments to repair are small woodwinds like flute, clarinet, and oboe. Avery has been a NAPBIRT member since repair school, and has presented multiple clinics over the years, and is a member of the NAPBIRT Board of Directors as a Regional Director.  Avery is also our Service Department Logistics Coordinator, and keeps the repair scheduling, timing, band estimates, and customer appointments running smoothly.  In his down time he enjoys cooking, learning about 3D printing, and enjoying time with his wife, daughter, and cat.

With 20 years of experience in musical instrument repair, Mark has helped service Milwaukee area schools and independent musicians, repairing not just many instruments, but many different types of instruments, for the last 20+ years. Mark attended and completed the Strings 1 & 2 courses through NAPBIRT University, and also attended and completed the Mohawk Touch-Up and Repair Workshop. Mark specializes in orchestral, fretted, percussion, and minor electronics repairs, and is furthering his education in brasswind repair.  From basic setups, all the way to neck replacement and full re-fret jobs, Mark has the skills to tackle just about any repair challenge.  A very humble guy, his general knowledge and attention to detail is second to none.  Mark's primary instrument is drums, and he enjoys gigging with Riding Shotgun, hailing from Milwaukee.  In his off time, Mark enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Meg, and their children, Jack and Molly.

Ultrasonic Cleaning for Band Instruments

Several years ago, we invested in an Omegasonics Music Pro Plus ultrasonic cleaner, and it was one of the best investments we have ever made.  Instead of using harsh chemicals and solvents to clean band instruments, we use an environmentally friendly, and very thorough ultrasonic cleaner, whenever possible.  Thorough cleaning is the first step in sanitization, and will also help keep your horn in great working order for years to come, saving on routine maintenance issues.
